Lord's Prayer

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come; Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever and ever.

Amen.

A terrific worship song from the Australian church/choir phenomenon, Hillsong.

Rise Up!

Rise up, oh children of light, and let us give glory to the Lord, who alone can save our souls. O Lord, as you withdraw sleep from the eyes of my body, grant me wakefulness of mind so that I may stand before you in awe and sing your praises worthily, all of this day.

Amen.

Prayer of Salvation

Most blessed Christ, I thank you that you have answered me and have become my salvation. No matter how weak or lowly I may feel, I will always remember your words: that those whom the earth despises — the stones that the builders rejected — have become the cornerstone of your church. Let me be strong in faith and strong in your Spirit; for only by You, Lord Christ, may the gates of righteousness be opened to a sinner. I pray that I may be part of the foundation of your church on earth, and that by your grace, the gates of righteousness may be opened to me and to all who confess your holy name.

Amen.

Benediction

The God of peace, who brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus Christ, the great Shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant; Make me perfect in every good work to do your will, working in me that which is well pleasing in your sight; through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory for ever and ever.

Amen.

Today’s “Remember the Bible” Question

What Bible verse instructs us not to speak evil of a leader of our people?

Answer: Acts 23:5

Hypocrisy

“A bad man is worse when he pretends to be a saint.”

Matthew 5:43-46 (ESV)

You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’

But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, so that you may be sons of your Father who is in heaven. For he makes his sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust.

Genesis 40:16-23 (ESV)

Joseph Interprets the Baker’s Dream

When the chief baker saw that the interpretation was favorable, he said to Joseph, “I also had a dream: there were three cake baskets on my head, and in the uppermost basket there were all sorts of baked food for Pharaoh, but the birds were eating it out of the basket on my head.”

And Joseph answered and said, “This is its interpretation: the three baskets are three days. In three days Pharaoh will lift up your head — from you! — and hang you on a tree. And the birds will eat the flesh from you.”

On the third day, which was Pharaoh’s birthday, he made a feast for all his servants and lifted up the head of the chief cupbearer and the head of the chief baker among his servants. He restored the chief cupbearer to his position, and he placed the cup in Pharaoh’s hand. But he hanged the chief baker, as Joseph had interpreted to them.

Yet the chief cupbearer did not remember Joseph, but forgot him.

Notes on the Scripture

People are always anxious to hear good news, and the baker, having heard the good news Joseph gave to the chief cupbearer, wants his dream interpreted, too. The poor baker!

Joseph, as we would have guessed, was spot on with his dream interpretations. The cupbearer is indeed restored to his position after three days, and the hapless baker hangs.

But the chief cupbearer does not remember Joseph to Pharaoh, as Joseph had asked him. So, Joseph is pretty much back to square one.

Faith has developed in the dryness and darkness of the past 10 years. I have and continue to pray, sometimes begging, for the Holy Spirit. If the Holy Spirit doesn't seem to answer, the question comes....am I rejected? I cling to Faith. I'm grateful for Daily Devotion. At one time I thought I knew, this too has been replaced with Faith...and Hope...and more empathy/compassion/acceptance than I had before. I realize I've not included"Love", I too think often, how weird. ... Read More

You are not rejected, Bonnie. The Spirit can be with you even when you feel the most depressed. Here is a quote from one of C.S. Lewis' letters that might help: It is quite right that you should feel that “something terrific” has happened to you (It has) and be “all glowy.” Accept these sensations with thankfulness as birthday cards from God, but remember that they are only greetings, not the real gift. I mean, it is not the sensations that are the real thing. The real thing is the ... Read More

I rarely pray for something specific. I pray Gods will be done. I usually leave it at that. That tells God i am trusting in Him for his guidance. I don't need any "sensations" to confirm it, just to know he heard me and i am trusting Him. God knows our needs and wants before hand. You HAVE to know. There should be little doubt. I pray for you. Specifically this time. God bless
