Lord’s Prayer

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come; Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever and ever.

Song of Praise (based on Psalm 8)

O  Lord my God, how majestic is your name in all the earth! You have set your glory above the heavens. When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, who am I that you are mindful of me, who are any of us that you should guide and protect us?

Yet you have made us in your image, a little lower than the angels, and crowned us with glory and honor we do not deserve. You have given us dominion over the works of your hands and put the earth beneath our feet; you have given us dominion over the beasts of the field, the birds of the heavens, and the fish of the sea. O Lord my God, I praise you for your gifts to me. How majestic is your name in all the earth!

All praise to Thee, Eternal Lord
Clothed in a garb of flesh and blood;
Choosing a manger for a throne,
While worlds on worlds are Thine alone.

[The Bible tells us that, during His life, Jesus a “little lower than the angels.” This echoes Psalm 8, which tells us that man was made “a little lower than the angels” or “a little lower than God.”]

Benediction (from Colossians 3)

Let the word of Christ richly dwell within me all this day; and whatever I do in word or deed, may I do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through Him to God the Father.

Think of the day ahead in terms of God with you, and visualize health, strength, guidance, purity, calm confidence, and victory as the gifts of His presence.

My son, do not despise the Lord’s discipline,
and do not resent his rebuke,

Arguments over Jesus’ Divinity

hen they heard these words, some of the people said, “This really is the Prophet.” Others said, “This is the Christ.” But some said, “Is the Christ to come from Galilee? Has not the Scripture said that the Christ comes from the offspring of David, and comes from Bethlehem, the village where David was?”

So there was a division among the people over him. Some of them wanted to arrest him, but no one laid hands on him.

The officers then came to the chief priests and Pharisees, who said to them, “Why did you not bring him?” The officers answered, “No one ever spoke like this man!”

The Pharisees answered them, “Have you also been deceived? Have any of the authorities or the Pharisees believed in him? But this crowd that does not know the law is accursed.”

Nicodemus, who had gone to him before, and who was one of them, said to them, “Does our law judge a man without first giving him a hearing and learning what he does?” They replied, “Are you from Galilee too? Search and see that no prophet arises from Galilee.”

Then they each went to their own home.

Notes on the Scripture

This historical passage is easily read. The Pharisees have solidified their position and have decided that Jesus must be stopped. But the guards they send to arrest him are stopped from completing their mission by Jesus’ words; it is a testament to Christ’s power and charisma, that the very soldiers sent to arrest him instead become tempted to convert to his way!

Rabbit ringing a church bell

Once again, we see how important it is to the Jews that the Messiah comply with the prophesies. They took their Bible very seriously. But they are mistaken in their facts: they believe Jesus is from Galilee, a man of unknown heritage, while in truth Jesus is a direct descendant of David and was born in Bethlehem, as predicted. The reader can now understand the importance of the accounts of Jesus birth, and the long genealogy that begins the Gospel of Matthew, in converting the Jews.

This also speaks to why Christ’s time had “not yet come.” If he had been arrested on the grounds stated here, the authorities might have been forced to free him when they discovered the facts about his birth. By the time he is actually arrested, however, the arrogant Pharisees will have grown to hate him, and to fear the threat he poses to their position and authority, that the prophesy will not matter.

First I want to say I love this site and have been so blessed by it since finding it! I rarely ever find myself commenting anywhere, but I have to issue a correction here. There are many false teachings as Apostle Paul warned us in his writings. How do we know when it's false? When it does not align with God's Word - the Ultimate stop. God's word never instructs us to pray for the dead. Jesus illustrates this truth through this parable in the New Testament. (Luke 16:19–31) If ... Read More

I would like to note that before Jesus raised Lazarus from the dead, ho prayed to the Father. then told Lazarus to come forth.
“Father, I thank You that You have heard Me. 42 And I know that You always hear Me, but wbecause of the people who are standing by I said this, that they may believe that You sent Me.” 43 Now when He had said these things, He cried with a loud voice, “Lazarus, come forth!” if it works for Christ, it works for me. ALWAYS PRAY for God's will to be done. Amen
