Lord’s Prayer

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come; Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever and ever.

Amen.

Prayer to Do God’s Will

Oh Lord God, Father Almighty who created me and everything I see and enjoy, blessed and beautiful Jesus, love of my heart, bounteous Holy Spirit of God who is so kind as to be with me and comfort me whenever I ask, I thank you for all that I am and all that I have had in my life. Thy will be done, my God. I ask only that you let me know your will for me, for I am often confused or conflicted, and I seek your guidance. Knowing your will for me, let me be anxious for nothing. And I pray for the strength, the power and the energy, to accomplish your purpose. All glory be to you, one God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, who was before time and will be forever,

Amen.

For All Who Misuse the Gift of Sex

couple praying Christian
Heavenly Father, I pray for your guidance to all people who have fallen into the pit of sexual immorality, especially those who earn money from, or openly abuse, the gift of sex you have given us: Adulterers; prostitutes and those who go to them; active homosexuals; those who are given to fornication; pederasts, and all drawn to abnormal expression of your gift; pornographers and their audience; those who seek to lust; and all those who teach that morality is illusory, make excuses, and encourage others to misuse their sexual nature.

Help them, and all of us, to admit and confess our sin, and to seek to amend our lives, that we might find the full measure of your love and your eternal joy. Where I have misused my sexual nature, send your Holy Spirit to me, so that I might fight the temptation to lustful conduct every day; and I pray that all who desire it, may find satisfaction of their needs within a happy and Godly marriage.

In Christ’s name I pray,

Amen.

Benediction

Now all glory to you, mighty God, who is able to keep me from falling away and will bring me with great joy into your glorious presence without a single fault. All glory to you who alone are God, our Savior through Jesus Christ our Lord. All glory, majesty, power, and authority are yours before all time, and in the present, and beyond all time,

Amen.

Think of the day ahead in terms of God with you, and visualize health, strength, guidance, purity, calm confidence, and victory as the gifts of His presence.

Today’s “Remember the Bible” Question

What verse tells us that “the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us”?

Answer: Romans 8:18

endless knot

Psalm 49:16-20 (ESV)

Be not afraid when a man becomes rich,
when the glory of his house increases.
For when he dies he will carry nothing away;
his glory will not go down after him.

For though, while he lives, he counts himself blessed
—and though you get praise when you do well for yourself—
his soul will go to the generation of his fathers,
who will never again see light.

Man in his pomp yet without understanding
is like the beasts that perish.

Acts 28:17-22 (ESV)

Paul in Rome
Illuminated Letter S|Illuminated Bible

ome three days later he called together the local leaders of the Jews, and when they had gathered, he said to them,

“Brothers, though I had done nothing against our people or the customs of our fathers, yet I was delivered as a prisoner from Jerusalem into the hands of the Romans. When they had examined me, they wished to set me at liberty, because there was no reason for the death penalty in my case. But because the Jews objected, I was compelled to appeal to Caesar — though I had no charge to bring against my nation.

For this reason, therefore, I have asked to see you and speak with you, since it is because of the hope of Israel that I am wearing this chain.”

And they said to him, “We have received no letters from Judea about you, and none of the brothers coming here has reported or spoken any evil about you. But we desire to hear from you what your views are, for with regard to this sect we know that everywhere it is spoken against.”

Notes on the Scripture

Paul wastes no time. Only three days pass in Rome before he calls the local Jewish leaders to visit him. His first purpose, of course, is to prevent them from fomenting hostility towards him. He wants to make sure they hear his side of the story first, lest the authorities in Jerusalem enlist them to persecute him. Remember, a number of Jews in Jerusalem had sworn that they would not eat until they had murdered Paul — their dislike of him was that strong.

Luckily, he is in time. None of them have gotten letters or messengers poisoning their minds against Paul. Christianity, however, has gotten a bad name among them; undoubtedly, angry Jews from Macedonia and possibly Anatolia have visited Rome. Remember, for example, in Acts 17, where a group of Jews from Thessalonica had followed Paul to other cities, trying to suppress and possibly kill him.

And so, wanting more information about “this sect”, they ask Paul for his views — which is actually rather funny. Paul is going to tell them, and anyone else who will listen, about Christ, whether they want to hear it or not.

2 Corinthians 12:9: ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.’ Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me.
