Love Actually Is All Around

“There are three things that will endure--faith, hope, and love--and the greatest of these is love.”

~1 Corinthians 13:13

The movie “Love Actually” starts with actor Hugh Grant talking about love. He relates that when he is overwhelmed by the worries and problems in the world today, he reminds himself that love is all around us. On 9-11 when the planes hit the twin towers, he feels that none of the phone calls from those in the towers were ones of hate, instead they were expressions of love to those who meant the most to them.

God's love is ultimate, unconditional, genuine, and endless. He makes it available to everyone. There is not anything that can remove us from God's love. Like the movie said it is “all around us”.

In a book written by Millie Stamm in 1967 she related a story about a wealthy woman who went to an orphanage to take one of the little girls home as her own. The woman told the child about what she would give her--new clothes, a room of her own, a beautiful doll. After a moment's hesitation, the little girl asked her what was she going to have to do for all of this? The new mother replied, only love me and be my little child.

People have said many times, I love to play golf. I love that dessert. I love to be with this person, or that person. I love to take nature walks. Just how are we to express God's love throughout our daily life?

Paul gave us a special recipe to mix into our life to show God's love to others. There are a lot of ingredients! In 1 Corinthians 13:4-5 he said: “Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud or rude. Love does not demand its own way. Love is not irritable, and it keeps no record of when it has been wronged.”

In 1 John 4:16-17 the apostle John said, “God is love, and all who live in love live in God, and God lives in them. And as we live in God, our love grows more perfect...”

Lord God, thank you for your patience, kindness, and love. Teach us how to live in your love more and more every day.Amen.
