Your Earthly and Heavenly Home
“And instantly I was in the Spirit, and I saw a throne in heaven and someone sitting on it!”
A definition for home is living quarters or family-style social unit (NLT). Home is the place where you may enjoy your favorite food at 3:00 A.M. It is the place where you feel comfortable singing in the shower even though you cannot carry a tune, or cannot recall all the words of the song. It is the place that when you are miles away you continue to have an unexplained yearning to return. It is a place of safety, security, and spiritual renewal.
Many people during their lifetime long for a glimpse of the heavenly home. The apostle John had such an occurrence during the time he was exiled to the island of Patmos. He was suddenly caught up into heaven, where he sees a vision of God Almighty on his throne. In the Book of Revelation John recorded for all generations, amazing observations of heaven, and he “faithfully reported the word of God and the testimony of Jesus Christ--everything he saw.” (NLT).
A few examples in the Bible that describe the heavenly home are not only stated in the Book of Revelation, but throughout the Old and New Testament. A few are: heaven is where Jesus lives; you will be eternally joyful; heaven is a holy place full of worship and praise; God will be living in your midst; heaven contains God's enormous and magnificent throne; there will be no more pain or sadness, and all of your tears will be wiped away; you will be able to see God face to face; and you will reign with Him forever.
So for today, appreciate your earthly home, and all that it entails. Your home is a blessing from God. Enjoy your favorite food at 3:00 A.M.; sing loudly in the shower; and appreciate the yearning to return to your place of safety, security, and spiritual renewal.
Christians ought to cherish the fact that things will be different in their heavenly home. In Hebrews it states: “For this world is not our home; we are looking forward to our city in heaven, which is yet to come.”. God's people should be comforted by the words of Jesus when He spoke about His Father's heavenly home. He stated: “There are many rooms in my Father's home, and I am going to prepare a place for you. If this were not so, I would tell you plainly.”, and you will joyfully live with Him for eternity.
Lord God, thank You for preparing a place in heaven for us to be with You for eternity. Amen.
