His grace is sufficient for me.

Amazing Grace Is Our Free Gift

May the grace of the Lord Jesus be with you.

~ 1 Corinthians 16:23

When you think of the word grace, what does it mean to you?

Webster’s Dictionary defines it as “the freely given, unmerited favor and love of God”, and “the condition of being in God’s favor.”

In 1935 Oswald Chambers wrote: “We have to realize that we cannot earn or win anything from God; we must either receive it (grace) as a gift or do without it.” He also said, “The grace you had yesterday will not do, for today. Grace is the overflowing favor of God; you can always reckon it is there to draw upon.”

In the familiar hymn, “Amazing Grace”, written by John Newton the first stanza reads, “Amazing grace, how sweet the sound, that saved a wretch like me. I once was lost but now am found, was blind but now I see.”

Paul wrote in Romans 3:24, “All are justified and made upright and in right standing with God, freely and gratuitously by His grace (His unmerited favor and mercy), through the redemption which is (provided) in Christ Jesus.”

Annie Johnson Flint relates in a poem how deep and wide God’s amazing grace is. It reads: “His love has no limit, His grace has no measure, His power no boundary known unto men; For out of His infinite riches in Jesus, He giveth and giveth and giveth again.”

God’s gift of grace is given to you, but it is not placed in a box wrapped up with fancy paper and a pretty bow. His gift to you is His unconditional love and unmerited favor. His grace is limitless, and always there. It is a free gift from God to us. That is the meaning of the word grace for me.

Lord God, we praise You and thank You for Your amazing grace. Help us every moment throughout the day to recall that Your grace is sufficient. Amen
