The Instruction Manual
“Your word is a lamp for my feet, and a light for my path.”
J. I Packer, a British-born Canadian Christian theologian, in the book titled, “Knowing and Doing the Will of God”, stated: “Scripture presents guidance as a covenant blessing promised to each of God's people in the form of instruction on how to live, both in broad policy terms and in making particular decisions.
How does God guide? By instructing. How does he instruct? Partly by his shaping of our circumstances, and partly by his gift of wisdom to understand and digest the teaching of his word and to apply it to ourselves in our circumstances.
So God's regular method of guidance is a combination of providential and instructional...Wisdom will always be given if we are humble and docile enough to receive it.”
To walk safely in the dark at your home you ought to have a night light so you will not trip or fall. As we walk in the dark, no one likes the sensation of not being able to see what is ahead of them and possibly tripping over something.
It is very popular these days to purchase items that are disassembled. When my husband purchases such an item and the package contains a zillion pieces of nuts, screws, and bolts (well maybe not quite a “zillion pieces”), to be put together; what does he do first? He usually sits down with the instruction manual in hand seeking guidance.
For God's people, the Bible is your personal instruction manual. “All Scripture is inspired by God” (2 Timothy 3:16a), and it is valuable, because its guidelines teach what is true and what is wrong. It provides your light from heaven to show the way to move forward to strengthen your spiritual life. Psalm 73:24 states: “You (God) will keep on guiding me with your counsel, leading me to a glorious destiny”. Even though the Bible was written years ago, it continues to remain God's Word, and it is pertinent for all your needs, so you will not stumble or fall.
Do not let God's light fade out in your life. Allow His Word to guide you, bless you, and light the way ahead of you. The Bible is your instruction manual to put together the “pieces, nuts, and bolts” in your life and to light up your darkness and daytime path so you will see your way. Joni Eareckson Tada stated: “God's Word is a light not only to our path but to our thinking. Hide it in your heart today, and you will never walk in darkness.”
Lord God, thank You for shining Your light upon our path. Help us to keep Your light burning. Amen.
