Are You An Official
“Blessed be the Lord, Who bears our burdens and carries us day by day.”
~ Psalm 68:19a
Are you the type of person who wears a formal badge on your collar that states: Official Burden Carrier? Do you carry your own burdens plus other's? When the burdens become too heavy for you, do you wonder how you can even be a productive person for the remainder of the day?
Where does a believing child of God go to find instant relief? Why not open your Bible and begin to meditate upon His Word.
God's picture-perfect prescription for burdens is provided in Psalm 55 when David stated: “Cast your burden on the Lord (releasing the weight of it) and He will sustain you”. God the magnificent burden-carrier wants His people to give their overwhelming burdens to Him.
David reveals in Psalm 145 the ingredients in God's medicine that give instant relief. David stated: “The Lord helps the fallen and lifts up those bent beneath their loads”. God's prescription provides release and healing, and the side effects are immediate peace and rest!
In the Book of Matthew Jesus promised freedom from your burdens; rest; peace; and healing for your soul. He said: “Come to Me, all you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you. Let Me teach you, because I am humble and gentle, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke fits perfectly, and the burden I give you is light” (NLT).
Webster's Dictionary describes a yoke as: “to join or link”. Millie Stamm wrote: “A friend once visited Mr. Moody at his boy's school in Massachusetts. The school owned a team of white oxen. Showing them to a friend, Mr. Moody said...It is always interesting to watch these oxen. When one is brought out to be yoked up, no matter where the other may be, he always comes and stands by the other oxen that he might be yoked with him”. Stamm went on to say, “Jesus is saying to us...Come and share my yoke with me and we will plow the field of life together”.
Saint Augustine provided an example of prayer for God's people to use when they want to release their burdens to God. It stated: “God of our life, there are days when the burdens we carry chafe our shoulders and weigh us down; when the road seems dreary and endless, the skies gray and threatening; when our lives have no music in them and our hearts are lonely, and our souls have lost their courage. Flood the path with light, turn our eyes to where the skies are full of promise...”.
As Christians we are personally responsible for our own actions, but like the oxen, you can share your burdens with Jesus and you will receive rest in your soul from Him. Remove the formal badge from your collar that states: Official Burden Carrier and hand over the badge to Him. Become yoked with Jesus because He is our Official Burden Carrier!
Lord God, thank You for Your willingness to share our burdens along with Your promise to give us peace and rest. Amen.
