The Book Club

“Every word of God proves true...”

~Proverbs 30:5

There are many people who belong to book clubs. They are usually made up of a group of people who routinely meet to review a fiction or nonfiction book that they have read. Each person is encouraged to discuss the book, and they may convey their approval or disapproval. The book clubs often meet in the homes of the members; libraries; bookstores; caf├ęs; or restaurants. There are also many online book clubs for people who have varied interests.

As God's community you are already a member of a book club, and the group is quite large. The assigned book to read is called the “Holy Bible”. The Holy Bible was written by God over a period of approximately 1,600 years. The Holy Spirit inspired human beings such as shepherds, kings, and fisherman to record God's thoughts, instructions, and words.

According to the website wikipedia.com, “the first major...(Bible)...printed in the West using movable type” was the Gutenberg Bible. It was written in “Latin”. There are 48 “substantial portions of copies” surviving, and they are “considered to be among the most valuable books in the world.”. Currently the Holy Bible is widely regarded to be the bestselling book of all time.

In God's book club, the people discover their varied interests by purposefully reading, studying, discussing, and searching the Scriptures. For example, a few interests are: healing; how to live a godly life; comfort; blessings; wisdom; promises; encouragement; along with discovering God's special treasures that He has stored up just for them.

The Holy Bible is a dependable instructional guide for not only your book reading club to follow, but also for instructions to guide your life by providing spiritual sustenance. It presents spiritual training by explaining how to correct errors. In 2 Timothy, Paul stated: “All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives...”.

The Bible educates people how to become equipped to be used by God for His work, and how to remain cheerful while working. In 1 Corinthians 15:58, Paul stated: “...be strong and steady, always enthusiastic about the Lord's work, for you know that nothing you do for the Lord is ever useless.”, and then you may produce works that is pleasing to Him.

You will never go wrong when you make the decision to join God's book club. Through the reading of the Holy Bible you will gradually discover that your primary desire may be to become more like Jesus Christ, and you may do your utmost to reflect Him in your daily life. And, unlike most books read by book clubs, God's Holy Bible can be read over, and over, and over again.

Lord God, thank You for providing the Holy Bible to us. Help us to make it a priority to read and study. Amen.
