Bright Green Treefrogs
For I live in eager expectation and hope that I will never do anything that causes me shame, but that I will always be bold for Christ, as I have been in the past, and my life will always honor Christ.
~Philippians 1:20 NLT
Have you ever overlooked the opportunity to speak out to a person regarding your spiritual life? Possibly you were fearful that you would be subjected to ridicule, or have to experience the sting of rejection. Let's consider an example. There is a small green treefrog who has a very loud voice that is used with great boldness.
The green treefrog who lives in Florida is a small (usually 1-2.5 inches), bright green frog. The Florida Wildlife Extension at the University of Florida states that folklore and legends regard these frogs to be weather prophets because they often appear or are heard during rainstorms.
They are very noisy little frogs. Their sound is somewhat like a duck quacking loudly or a crow. One day a person who seemed to be visiting the area, was walking by our home and asked what kind of bird was making that loud noise. He was quite surprised when he learned that the loud sound was coming from a very small green frog.
Pause for a moment to reflect about the small green treefrog. How may we apply its example to our life? Here are a few hints. It may be tiny, but it is mighty. One green treefrog can be heard around the neighborhood. Become a “weather prophet” to others who are walking in a “rainstorm”.
May we become “...much more bold to speak and publish fearlessly the Word of God (acting with more freedom and indifference to the consequences).” Philippians 1:14b
Lord God, thank you for giving us the example of the small green treefrog who has a very loud voice that announces its presence. Help us to always honor Christ by our words. Amen.
