Ecclesiastes 3:1

The Season of Fall

“He changes times and seasons, he removes kings and sets up kings; he gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to those who have understanding.”

~Daniel 2:21

Fall is the season to go leaf peeping! The leaves are turning brilliant shades of oranges and reds. The summer is over and the cool breezes are beginning to blow in from the north giving a hint that 'ole man winter is just around the corner. The jackets and sweaters are coming out of the closets.

Why not take a day trip to amble the back roads of Amish Country? Let's jump in the car and go!

Shall we visit the produce stands that are filled with pumpkins in all sizes and shapes? A new pumpkin recently introduced is the white pumpkin. I always thought that pumpkins had to be orange! The stands also have various squashes, peaches, apples, and pears. There are potted mums in all the vibrant colors of yellow, maroon, lilac, and bronze that are available for sale.

How does stopping for some homemade pumpkin pie and/or warm pumpkin bread with a large scoop of homemade ice cream on the side sound? Yum! Now that stop is a must.

As we drive down the back roads we notice that the apple trees are laden with ripe apples just waiting to be picked. The early apples are in the stores now. Can apple cider and freshly homemade doughnuts be far behind?

However, food is not the only signal of the change of seasons. The football games have started, the County and State Fairs are in full swing; there are so many Fall Festivals that we do not know which one to attend. To name a few they are: the Apple Butter Stirrin' Festival; the County Antique Festival; the Swiss Festival, and the Harvest Festival & Rib Cook-Off.

Well, we have had a great day traveling the back roads, have we not? We certainly experienced a lot of “activity”, and we have enjoyed tasting and purchasing the “harvest”.

After we returned home from our wonderful day in Amish Country, let's relax, become quiet, and settle into our comfy chair near the fireplace that has a roaring-crackling fire in it. Looking out the window I see a full harvest moon shining brightly. How about having a cup of hot chocolate open our Bible and reflect on the wisdom in the Book of Ecclesiastes.

Ecclesiastes chapter 3:1 and 2b tells us, “There is a time for everything, a season for every activity under heaven. A time to plant and a time to harvest.”. When we read on to verse 11a, it says, “God has made everything beautiful for its own time”.(NLT)

As we count our blessings for this day, and also for this Fall season, we have many. We have seen many beautiful things God created as we traveled together.

Seasons change for a reason. God provides for us a great bounty to feed our bodies through the coming season of winter, just as He feeds our souls through His Word to prepare us for the upcoming season of our life.

Lord God, thank You for all Your provisions as you prepare us for the change of seasons. Help us to always remember that You are the mighty provider. Amen.
