Gospel of Matthew 7:21-27

Christ Descends from the Mountain and Heals the Sick, fortelling the spread of the Gospel outside Israel

When Jesus had finished these words, the multitudes were astonished at his teaching, for he taught them like one having authority, not like their scribes.

He descended from the mountain, and great multitudes followed him.

A leper worshipped him, saying, Lord, if you will, you can make me clean. And he stretched out his hand, and touched him, saying, I will; be made clean. And immediately his leprosy was cleansed. And Jesus said to him, See that you tell nobody; but go, show yourself to the priest, and offer the gift that Moses commanded, as a testimony for them.

When he had entered Capernaum, a Roman centurion came to him, beseeching him and saying, "Lord, my servant lies in the house sick with palsy, in terrible torment." And Christ said, "I will come and heal him."

The centurion answered, "Lord, I am not worthy that you should come under my roof; but only say the word, and my servant will be healed. For I also am a man under authority, having soldiers under my command: and I tell this one, 'Go', and he goes; and another, 'Come', and he comes; and to my servant, 'Do this', and he does it."

When Jesus heard this, he marvelled, and said to those following him, "Truly, I have not found such great faith, no, not in Israel. Many will come from the east and the west, and sit down with Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, in the kingdom of heaven; but the sons of the kingdom shall be cast into the outer darkness: there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth."

And Jesus said to the centurion, "Go your way; as you have believed, so will it be done to you." And the servant was healed in the hour.
