Jesus traveled throughout Galilee, teaching in the synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all manner of disease and sickness among the people. News of him spread throughout Syria; and people brought all that were sick, afflicted with diverse diseases and ailments, possessed by demons, and epileptic, and crippled, to him; and he healed them.
Great multitudes of humanity came to him, from Galilee and Decapolis and Jerusalem and Judaea and beyond the Jordan. And seeing the multitudes, he went up into the mountain: and when he had sat down, his disciples came unto him; and he opened his mouth and taught them, saying,
Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.
Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.
Blessed are they that hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.
Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy.
Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.
Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called sons of God.
Blessed are they that have been persecuted for righteousness' sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are you when men shall reproach you, and persecute you, and say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake. Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven. Thus they persecuted the prophets that were before you.
