Gospel of Matthew 15:29-38

Second Feeding of the Multitudes

Jesus left Canaan and traveled to a place near the sea of Galilee, where he went up onto a mountain to sit. And great multitudes came to him, having with them the lame, blind, mute, maimed, and many others. They fell prostrate before him, and he healed them.

The multitude was amazed when they saw the mute speak, the maimed made whole, the lame walk, and the blind see; and they glorified the God of Israel.

Jesus called his disciples to him, and said, "I feel compassion for these people, because they have been here for three days with nothing to eat. I don't want to send them away starving; they may faint on the way home."

The disciples replied, "Where would we find enough bread in this desert to feed so many?"

Jesus asked them, "How much bread do you have?" And they told him, "Seven, and several small fish."

He commanded the multitude to sit down on the ground. Then he took the seven loaves and the fish, and, giving thanks, he broke them. He gave them to the disciples, and the disciples to the multitudes.

And they all ate, and were filled: and they gathered up the broken pieces that remained, which filled seven baskets. Four thousand men were fed, besides women and children.
