1 Thessalonians 1

Daily Prayer Readers’ Bible
Greeting (1)
To the Church of Thessalonica:Grace to you, and peace, in the name God the Father and our Lord Jesus Christ, from Paul, Silvanus, and Timothy.
Thanks for the Faithfulness of the Church (2-10)
We always remember you in our prayers, giving thanks to God for every one of you. Most especially we recall the steadfastness of your hope and your love in Jesus Christ, which is proven not in mere words, but in the many good works that have flowed from your faith. For you, whom we consider our brothers and sisters, were called by God not to a Gospel of words alone, but a Gospel filled with the power and certainty of the Holy Spirit.
You have proven that you understood and appreciated the work we did on your behalf while we were there with you; for you became such close followers of the Lord that you could be called mirrors of us, and thus of Him. Even when dire tribulation has been inflicted on you, you have never wavered.
For despite your suffering, you have celebrated the Holy Spirit with joy so great that all of Macedonia and Achaia resound with your voice. Even distant lands are filled with people talking about how you took us in, and how readily you turned away from dead idols to serve a real, living God.
We would write to correct your errors, but there is nothing to correct. You can await the coming of the Son, whom God raised from dead, in confidence. God’s wrath will come; but the Son will return from the heavens, in that hour, to deliver you.
DP Bible
1 Paul and Silvanus and Timothy to the church of the Thessalonians in God the Father and Lord Jesus Christ; grace to you and peace.
2 We give thanks to God always concerning all of you, remembering you without fail in our prayers 3 remembering before our God and Father your work of faith, and your labor of love, and the steadfastness of your hope in Jesus Christ, 4 knowing, brethren beloved of God, chosen by Him, 5 that our gospel did not come to you in words alone, but also in power and in the Holy Spirit and with great certainty, just as you know the kind of people we were, acting for your benefit, when we were with you.
6 And you became like us and the Lord, receiving the word with the joy of the Holy Spirit, in spite of great tribulation, 7 thus becoming a model for all the believers in Macedonia and Achaia. 8 for the Word of the Lord sounds forth from you, not only in Macedonia and Achaia, but everywhere your faith to God is known, and so, we have no need to tell you anything; 9 They themselves report what kind of reception we had with you, and how your turned to God from idols, to serve a true, living God, 10 and to await His Son coming from the heavens, the Son whom He raised from the dead, Jesus, our deliverance from the coming wrath.
DP Verbatim Bible
1 Paul and Silvanus and Timothy to the church of the Thessalonians in god father and lord Jesus Christ; grace to you and peace.
2 We give thanks to god always concerning all of you, remembrance making in the prayers of us, unceasingly
3 remembering of you the work of faith and of the labor of love and the persistence of the hope of the
4 knowing, brothers being loved by God, the choice of you,
5 that the gospel of us not was created in you in word only but also in power and in spirit holy and in certainty much, just as you know what kind we were among you for you.
6 And you imitators of us were made and of the lord, receiving the word in affliction much with gladness of spirit holy,
7 thus to have been made you model for all the believing in Macedonia and in Achaia.
8 For from you sounds forth the word of the lord not only in Macedonia and Achaia, but in every place the faith of you which to god is sent forth, thus no need to have us to tell anything;
9 for themselves about us they report what kind of reception we had with you, and how you turned to god from the idols to serve god living and true,
10 and to await the son of him from the heavens, whom he raised from the dead, Jesus the rescuer of us from the wrath coming.
About the Bible Translations
The Daily Prayer Readers’ Bible is a paraphrase Bible, written so that the ideas flow well in contemporary English, making it easier to read.
The DP Bible is a much more literal translation and thus more useful for close study. The degree of literalness would roughly correspond to the NASB.
The DP Verbatim Bible is an unusual translation that seeks to translate the Greek as precisely “word for word” as possible. It is nearly unreadable in spots but hopefully will be useful for extremely deep study, where the meaning of a particular word or expression is unclear.
