Lord's Prayer
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come; Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever and ever.
Prayer for Grace and Strength
O Lord God of Israel and God of the nations, you are the only God in heaven above or the earth below. I walk before you with all my heart. I bless your name in the morning when I rise and in the evening when I sleep, and all the day when your creation fills my eye. Bless me to remember you this day; when I see and hear the thousand miracles of your creation, let me see them anew, recalling that you have made them, and no other; that I may live in your presence among the common miracles I take for granted. Through Christ I pray,
Prayer for Peace
Grant, O God, that your holy and life-giving Spirit may so move every human heart, that barriers which divide us may crumble, suspicions disappear and hatreds cease; that our divisions being healed, we may live together in justice and peace; through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Community of Prayer
Heavenly Lord, I know I am not alone saying these prayers or reading your Word this morning, but many people unknown to me, from all stations of life, have joined together in this brief moment of devotion. May the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit, be among the community of all who pray in the name of Christ this morning, and remain among us always.
Think of the day ahead in terms of God with you, and visualize health, strength, guidance, purity, calm confidence, and victory as the gifts of His presence.
Acts 2:14a,22-32
David's Prophecy of the Resurrection
Peter, standing with the eleven, raised his voice and addressed the multitude.
"You that are Israelites, listen to what I have to say: God himself has attested to Jesus of Nazareth with deeds of power, wonders, and signs that God did through him among you, as you yourselves know. This man, handed over to you according to God's plan and with his foreknowledge, you crucified and killed by the hands of those outside the law.
But God raised him up, having freed him from death, because it was impossible for him to be held in its power. For David prophesied concerning him:
Therefore my heart was glad, and my tongue rejoiced; and my flesh will live in hope.
For you will not abandon my soul to hell, nor let your Holy One experience corruption.
You have shown me the ways of life; you will make me full of gladness with your presence.'
Fellow Israelites, I tell you will complete confidence that our ancestor David died and was buried; his tomb is with us to this day. Since he was a prophet, he knew that God had sworn an oath to him to put one of his descendants on his throne. David thus foresaw the resurrection of the Messiah, saying:
God has raised up this Jesus, and all of us are witnesses."
Psalm 16:8-11
8 I have set the LORD always before me; because He is at my right hand, I shall not be moved.9 Therefore my heart is glad and my spirit rejoiceth; my flesh also shall rest in hope.
10 For Thou wilt not leave my soul in Sheol; neither wilt Thou suffer Thine Holy One to see corruption.
11 Thou wilt show me the path of life; in Thy presence is fullness of joy; at Thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore.
