Lord’s Prayer

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come; Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever and ever.

Amen.

Today’s “Saturday Oldie” is a Christian pop song that never fails to inspire me. So thankful for this clip from the Perry Como Show. “The Christophers,” which came on every Sunday morning (and is still aired, today, on a few cable channels as “Christopher Closeup”), used the last line as their theme.

Prayer of Faith

Holy Jesus I am coming and coming to you, because you are my only refuge, my only certainty, my only hope. You are the remedy for all my ills, the comfort for all my miseries, the reparation for all my faults, the supplement for all that is wanting in me, the certainty of all my questions, the infallible and unfailing, inexhaustible source for me of light, of strength, of constancy, of peace and of blessing.

I am sure that you will never leave me and you will not stop loving me, you will never tire of helping me and of protecting me, because you love me with an infinite love.

Have pity on me, Lord, according to your great mercy; and make of me, in me, and for me, all that you wish. Because I abandon myself to you with full and entire confidence that you will never abandon me.

Amen.

Teach Me to Love

Jesus and Mary|Marianne Stokes +

Oh holy Christ, your life was perfect in constancy. You have never failed those who loved you, for your love is eternal, perfect and unfailing. You never change, never weaken, never vary. Teach me the steadfastness of your love, mighty Savior. Teach me your humility, your selflessness. Teach me to be a devoted servant.

Look with grace, I pray, on my small and tarnished loving; protect it, foster it, strengthen it, that my love may be less unworthy to be offered to you and to your children. O Light of the world, teach me how to love.

Amen.

Prayer of Resolve

I  bind myself to you this day, oh Christ, in your truth and in your sacrifice. I give to you my anxiety and my fear, my depression and my doubt, for you have promised to take them if we only ask; and I take upon myself your burden, for it is light and your way is gentle. May I keep this in my heart and mind all this day.

Amen.

Think of the day ahead in terms of God with you, and visualize health, strength, guidance, purity, calm confidence, and victory as the gifts of His presence.

Today’s “Remember the Bible” Question

What important lesson do we learn in Romans 12:2?

Answer: “Do not be conformed to this age . . . .”

endless knot

Psalm 83:16-18

Fill their faces with shame,
That they may seek Your name, O Lord.

Let them be confounded and dismayed forever;
Yes, let them be put to shame and perish,
That they may know that You, whose name alone is the Lord,
Are the Most High over all the earth.

Genesis 1:20-25

The Creation of the World [3] - Animals
A

nd God said, “Let the waters swarm with swarms of living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth across the expanse of the heavens.” So God created the great sea creatures and every living creature that moves, with which the waters swarm, according to their kinds, and every winged bird according to its kind. And God saw that it was good. And God blessed them, saying, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the waters in the seas, and let birds multiply on the earth.”

And there was evening and there was morning, the fifth day.

And God said, “Let the earth bring forth living creatures according to their kinds — livestock and creeping things and beasts of the earth according to their kinds.” And it was so. And God made the beasts of the earth according to their kinds and the livestock according to their kinds, and everything that creeps on the ground according to its kind. And God saw that it was good.

Notes on the Scripture

Never let an evolutionist tell you that God does not exist, that He did not plan for earth’s creatures to be made and then execute His plan. Scientists don’t know everything, and more to the point, science does not have anything intelligent to say about God.

But we must always keep in mind that the Bible does not tell us things that we can find out by ourselves. Nowhere in the Bible does it tell us that 1 + 1 = 2. But we understand it is true. It simply is not important to our understanding of God and our relationship to Him.

There is no reason for any tension or disagreement between science and religion. And once you have accepted, by faith, that God gave us His holy word for us to learn and follow, so that we might be saved from sin, there is no reason to be defensive, simply because science teaches us things that the Bible does not.

Any time there seems to be a disagreement between the Bible and science, there is a reason for it. Our meager minds may struggle to find it, but we must always remember: the Bible is not a scientific treatise; and a physics textbook is not a religious treatise. Christians who try to take their science from the Bible, and scientists who try to take their knowledge of God from equations, will be equally disappointed at the result.

Genesis tells us that on the first day, God separated the light from the darkness. By “day”, does it mean a 24-hour period of the earth’s revolution? It can’t; the earth didn’t exist. (And see 2 Peter 3:8: “A day is like a thousand years to the Lord.”)

The Bible tells us that God made man by breathing on the dust. This drives an evolutionist nuts, because he can “prove” that human beings are descendants of lower primates. But so what? An architect will show you a model and tell you that he built a great building in its image. But in fact, construction took a long time, and involved (among many other things) pouring concrete into wooden forms that were then removed. Will the concrete subcontractor accuse the architect of lying?

No, because they are talking about different things. God made man by putting spirit into matter, that is, by “breathing on the dust.” Genesis tells us who and why. The reason the Bible omits intermediate details is because they are utterly unimportant in a book about God and the human soul.

I'm a day late with my comment, but I wanted to put in my Tuppence worth!

All interesting comments re Evolution and Creation. When we arrived in Australia nearly 50 years ago, the Aboriginal people I met, told me they had been around for 40,000 years. Now nearly 50 years on, Aboriginal people are saying they have been here for between 60,000 to 100,000 years!!

I agree with Jack about "just accept what the Scripture says"; I would add : remember 2 Peter 3:8

Many blessings to you all

I have a science & engineering education and I am less challenged reconciling the Bible and science literature than I do with following The Bible (obey dictators/royalty-unto Caesar what is Caesar's) and living and participating in a democracy. I am compelled to participate (vote, discuss, etc) and my Christian Theology influences these actions. I don't see how true Christians can behave differently.

It is, in a way, unfortunate that we don't have a more interactive discussion feature. I don't think I know everything and, especially in trying to interpret the first 10 1/2 chapters of Genesis, I don't think I have any special knowledge. But I will say, I am very comfortable studying the Bible and worshipping my God with others, who have different points of view about these things.
