Ready For A Makeover?
“He restores my soul.”

In today's society much emphasis is placed upon makeovers, and most of the advertising plays to your emotional longings as they encourage you to buy their products. A few examples are: makeover TV shows; makeovers for inside and outside of your home, such as kitchen remodel or repainting the walls in the newest color; retailers are regularly creating new styles in clothing and shoes; and all brands of beauty products are sold for makeovers so when a person looks in the mirror they will appear more gorgeous and glamorous.
How many of you have ever viewed the 1950 animated musical fantasy film produced by Walt Disney named Cinderella? Cinderella was portrayed as a kind and gentle young woman despite her mistreatment by her step family. Meanwhile, the King and the Grand Duke organized a ball in an effort to find a suitable wife for the Prince. Cinderella was unable to attend the ball because her mean stepsisters destroyed the gown she intended to wear. Her Fairy Godmother appeared and executed a makeover by turning her tattered dress into a new ball gown; a pumpkin into a carriage; the mice into horses; her horse Major into a coachman, and her dog Bruno into a footman (Wikipedia). That was some makeover, was it not?
Many people tend to think they are handsome and/or beautiful because of their outside appearances. However, the Bible scrutinizes people differently in 1 Peter: “Don't be concerned about the outward beauty that depends on fancy hairstyles, expensive jewelry, or beautiful clothes. You should be known for the beauty that comes from within, the unfading beauty of a gently and quiet spirit, which is so precious to God”.
Please understand that I am not advocating allowing your outward appearance to become untidy because I am one who likes comfortable shoes; a bit of makeup; a tiny bit of “bling”; and new clothing and shoes. On the other hand, God's people ought to spend more time and emphasis on their spiritual beauty because that will never diminish. Dale Carnegie stated: “The expression a woman (and men) wears on her (or his) face is more important than the clothes she (or he) wears on her (or his) back”.
So, how do God's faithful followers deepen their inner beauty? A few examples are: be devoted to God; make yourself attractive by the good things you do; become a listener; do not draw attention to yourself; be gentle; be loving; be kind; walk with Him every moment of the day; and make it a habit to daily meditate on His Word. That type of person gives off a light from their face that cannot be duplicated by the best of the best makeover expert.
Helen Steiner Rice wrote a poem titled, “Seek Ye First the Kingdom of God”. A few of the lines are: “For you need nothing more than God's guidance and love...To insure you the things that you're most worthy of...So trust in His wisdom and follow His ways...And be not concerned with the world's empty praise”.
As a Christian, as you allow God's Word to be the ultimate makeover then your godly beauty will forever sparkle!
Lord God, thank You for Your patience as we are in a constant state of makeover. Help us to reflect Your beauty. Amen.
