Creating Life-Stories

“But the path of the just is like the shining sun, that shines ever brighter unto the perfect day.”

~Proverbs 4:18

If you have read a few of the “Daily Inspirations” that I have written you will have seen that I enjoy tying together human interest stories with biblical stories and scripture. As a young child my aunt would read many lovely children's books to me. During the Christmas season she always read the biblical Christmas story. As I reflect, she would have had them memorized because of the numerous times she patiently and lovingly read them to me.

There are so many examples of stories in the Bible with the first being in the Old Testament in the Book of Genesis. In Genesis 1:1, the first sentence is: “In the beginning God created (to make out of nothing; make what did not exist before), the heavens and the earth.”. God chose to convey His love to each person by forming the universe “out of nothing”, from “what did not exist before”. Could there ever be any better introduction?

Most people desire to have significance and purpose in their life-story. Lucinda Secrest McDowell stated: “People don't want to merely read stories or watch stories or even tell stories. They want to live stories. There is in each of us an innate desire to have a role to play--a major part in the saga that is life.”.

An example of living a story was reported recently in the Ocala Star-Banner newspaper. A 2009 study found 2,500 hospitals that have a program titled “musician-in-residence”. “The professionally trained artists and art therapists” who sing, write, or paint “work intimately with patients”. The article featured two musicians who play a guitar and sing for the patients. They visit around “15 patients daily”. The two men, plus the others who faithfully participate, are playing an important “part in the saga that is life.”. Each individual's life-story is creating love and joyfulness to many hospital patients who are enduring pain and suffering.

In the New Testament Book of Matthew, Chapter 1, Matthew authored a genealogical story by providing a record and proof of the lineage of Jesus the Messiah. Matthew verified to all people that Jesus Christ was a descendent of King David and Abraham, and was the long-awaited Messiah. The arrival of the Messiah had come to fruition. His arrival was “The End” of a story, because the Old Testament prophecies regarding His arrival had been fulfilled. The New Testament took on a new significance since it reflects God's love being shown to all people through the life-story of His Son; Jesus the Messiah.

As God's people trust Jesus Christ, their life-stories take on a brighter new meaning; a valuable significance; a purpose; and they will be creating amazing joyfulness to others. Like my aunt displayed to me, His people will be conveying patience and the love of God, through Jesus Christ, during their own “saga that is life”.

Lord God, thank You for Your love. Help us to shine as bright as the sun to others, and to create joyfulness in others' lives. Amen.
