Fresh Start Program

“...there must be a spiritual renewal of your thoughts and attitudes. You must display a new nature because you are a new person, created in God's likeness--righteous, holy, and true.”

~Ephesians 4:23-24

Have you noticed that during the month of January the advertisements usually promote some form of weight loss programs? Is it possible the companies presume that many people have gained weight from overeating during the past Christmas season? Perhaps they take this opportunity to motivate a physical program to bring about a revitalized you.

There are many examples of how to accomplish the task of physical revitalization. A few examples are: the covers of various magazines at the grocery store checkout counter suggest mystery recipes to promote weight loss in just a few weeks by following their recipe guidelines; the newspapers are filled with suggestions regarding how to become fit, including various workout routines; the TV shopping networks are selling all types of exercise equipment and exercise clothing; and there are various food/drink plans that encourage you to purchase their plan by publishing the number of people who have lost weight from being on their food purchase program.

Do not misunderstand me, individuals ought to take responsibility to make an effort to stay healthy, including the food they eat, and an exercise program that is tailored to them.

Contrary to all the various advertising and articles that cater to the world's secular perspective, in January God's people have the opportunity to initiate a spiritual fresh start program in prayer. A prayer of St. Francis of Assisi might be a way to start. St Francis states: “Lord, make me an instrument of your peace. Where there is hatred, let me sow love; where there is injury, pardon; where there is doubt, faith; where there is despair, hope; where there is darkness, light; where there is sadness, joy; O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console; to be understood as to understand; to be loved as to love. For it is in giving that we receive; it is in pardoning that we are pardoned; and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.”.

So why not begin your spiritual fresh start program that will revitalize you spiritually? As you begin the program with sincere prayer you will become spiritually energized to do what is “pleasing and good in the sight of the Lord”. By placing God first in your life; serving Him wholeheartedly; and reading His Word, He will be able to accomplish more during 2016 than you could ever imagine.

Lord God, thank You for Your encouragement to begin a fresh start that will revitalize our spiritual growth. Help us to remain committed to You during 2016. Amen.
