Do It Now

“Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations...”

~Matthew 28:19a

Contemplating the photograph posted today on the “Main Page” of this website, I noticed several things. Like many of you, the first person that I saw was Jesus and then I saw the family. They were walking up a hill on a dusty road following Jesus. Jesus was carrying several suitcases for the family, and they were willingly following Him.

The word follow is described in several ways: to pursue or run after, and to imitate.

In the “Holy Bible” there are many examples of the willingness of people who would forsake their own desires, leave their homeland, leave their families, leave their occupations, and/or their lifestyles to “pursue or run after” God.

For example, in the Book of Matthew, Peter and Andrew's occupations were commercial fishermen. One day their whole lifestyle changed. That particular day while they were fishing with their nets, Jesus walked near them “along the shore beside the Sea of Galilee”. Jesus stated to them: “Come, follow me...and I will send you out to fish for people”. The men left behind their fishing nets, and followed Him. They did it immediately...not tomorrow, but immediately. Why? Because they recognized that He was different. In their hearts they identified Him as the long awaited Messiah.

Michael London stated: “Whatever you want to do, do it now. There are only so many tomorrows.” As a Christian, when the still, small voice of Jesus whispers to you, “follow Me”, are you ready to go where He wants you to go...now...not tomorrow? Are you willing to do what He wants you to do...now...not tomorrow? Are you willing to “run after” Him up that dusty road, not knowing exactly where you will be going, but fully trusting Him...now...not tomorrow?

To follow Jesus means spending time with Him. It also means being available to hear His voice, and trusting Him as the source of wisdom. In the Book of Matthew, Jesus stated: “Anyone who listens to my teaching and follows it is wise like a person who builds a house on solid rock.”

A Dayspring Daybrightener stated: “God chose you and drew you to His side...He called you and equipped you for His work...He blessed you and gifted you to fulfill His purposes.” It doesn't matter where you have been. But what does matter is that He selected you, and prepared you to imitate Him, and to share the Good News with others. You are His masterpiece!

Why not make the decision to run after Him today, and say to Him: whatever You want me to do, I am willing to do it now! Do not wait until tomorrow to pursue Him. Be assured that He will give you the strength to overcome great obstacles when you chose to follow Him up the hill, on a dusty road.

Lord God, thank You for today. Help us to continually possess a willing heart to follow You. Amen.
