Praying Hands

God's First-Aid Kit

“The LORD is my Strength and my (impenetrable) Shield; my heart trusts in, relies on, and confidently leans on Him, and I am helped; therefore my heart greatly rejoices, and with my song will I praise Him.”

~Psalm 28:7

Fear and anxiety seems to be stomping around rampant in the world today. There are many illustrations of why people are experiencing them. One such example is in the United States where the people, from young to retired, are facing a declining health care system, combined with increasing costs. They become afraid, and fear they will not have the sufficient funds for the cost of future medical care.

Billy Graham stated: “God doesn't want us to be prisoners of our fears.”. Graham reminds God's people that their God is “greater than anything we'll ever face”.

Fear and anxiety become like a dark shadow nearby, however you can bring light into the darkness by trusting in God's first-aid kit of promises. God offers protection and He gives strength to the weak. In Psalm 23, David wrote that when people fear, God is close by you; He comforts you; He protects you, and He restores your soul.

When a person is stricken with paralyzing fear and anxiety, how long is it before they turn to prayer? Is it first on your agenda, or is it a last resort when all else has failed? A strong prayer life is becoming an ever-increasingly important treasure to cherish for God's community of believers. Our Lord never grows weary of listening to your prayers.

While in prison in Rome in approximately A. D. 61, Paul wrote encouragement to the Christians in Philippi. He stated: “Do not fret or have any anxiety about anything, but in every circumstance and in everything, by prayer and petition (definite request), with thanksgiving, continue to make your wants known to God. And God's peace (shall be yours...)...” (AMP). When you are experiencing anxiety and fear, go to prayer to have a chat with your Almighty God, and He has promised peace to come into your mind and heart.

Helen Steiner Rice wrote a poem titled, “In Hours of Discouragement God Is Our Encouragement”. A few lines are: “Sometimes we feel uncertain...And unsure of everything...Afraid to make decisions...Dreading what the day will bring...We keep wishing it were possible...To dispel all fear and doubt...And to understand more readily...Just what life is all about...God has given us the answers...Which too often go unheeded...But if we search His promises...We'll find everything that's needed...To lift our faltering spirits...And renew our courage, too...”.

For a Christian, whatever the decision facing you, or challenge you are experiencing, prayer is your direct chat-line to your Heavenly Father through His Son Jesus Christ. Today, if fear and anxiety are fleeting around you, and are causing you inner turmoil, be sure to continuously keep your prayers going. Fill your mind with a first-aid kit that is packed with the powerful promises from His Word, and you will be restored and renewed with His peace.

Lord God, thank You for providing our first-aid kit that is filled with promises. Help us to always keep our prayer chat-line open to You. Amen.
