Total Faith In God
“But without faith it is impossible to please and be satisfactory to Him. For whoever would come near to God must believe that God exists and that He is the rewarder of those who earnestly and diligently seek him.”
Recently a friend and I had a discussion about keeping total faith in God regardless of the disappointment that she was experiencing. We spoke of Hebrews 11, and how the men and women listed were great examples because of their faith.
Saint Augustine of Hippo (334-430), stated: “Faith is to believe, on the Word of God, what we do not see, and its reward is to see and enjoy what we believe.”
Great men and women of faith listed in the Holy Bible were shining examples of having to dig deeper into their roots of faith as they placed their total trust in God. They relied upon God, and trusted Him to open or close doors to show them His will. They also allowed Him to work in their lives even when it was impossible for them to know the outcome of their current situation/challenge.
In the Old Testament an example of placing one's total faith in God were three men named Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. Their faith was tested as they defied King Nebuchadnezzar's order to fall down and worship his gold statue. They were unwilling to compromise their belief, even to the point of facing their fiery death. Standing before King Nebuchadnezzar they stated: “If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God whom we serve is able to save us. He will rescue us from your power. But even if He doesn't, Your Majesty can be sure that we will never serve your gods or worship the gold statue you have set up.” Because of their faith, God saved them.
Abraham was another example of a faith-filled person. He was blessed by Him because of his faith. Abraham displayed his total faith during times of disappointments, trials, and testings. For example, he followed God's guiding from his homeland to an unknown territory, which later became the Jews Promised Land.
You will not have to confront the same blazing furnaces of disappointments, trials, and testings, like Shadrach, Meshach, Abednego, and Abraham did. However, through their examples of their faith, may yours be strengthened. They “...received God's approval because of total faith in Him...” (Hebrews 11:39a).
Today you can take hold of God's right hand, and walk through the day hand-in-hand with Him, just as the people mentioned above did. When you place your total faith in Him you will be able to face all circumstances. Like the men and women of faith, you do not have to fear because the same God who was with them is faithful, and He is with you too!
Lord, thank You for extending your right hand to us. Amen.
