He Watches Over You

“For the Lord watches over the path of the godly.”

~ Psalm 1:6a

Mother Angelica, a Nun of the Poor Clares of Perpetual Adoration of Hanceville, Alabama, USA stated: “If we could only realize that the Dear Lord watches us, every one of us individually, just as He watched those Apostles in the boat. Every moment, whether you're awake or asleep, whatever you're doing. He watches you--not as a judge, but as one who loves much. He wants to see you love Him by preferring Him to all things.”

For God's people, it is a great comfort to recognize that He is watching over them. For example, in Exodus there was a time that Moses became discouraged and he cried out to the Lord and asked that He show His intentions, and to help him to understand what He wanted him to do. Moses knew the Lord was the only source of help. “The Lord replied: 'I will personally go with you...I will give you rest--everything will be fine for you.” (Exodus 33:14 NLT).

Does not that same verse in Exodus bring great consolation to you when you may be experiencing discouragement if you have been forsaken by a family member or a friend, or experiencing loneliness?

Henry G. Bosch wrote a story in “Our Daily Bread” about a Christian lady whom God was watching over her path. The story went like this: one night a Christian young lady was riding a ferry to New York. She noticed a stranger watching her. The stranger approached her and asked “Are you alone?” She replied that she was not alone. Later while walking down a street, she heard footsteps behind her, and she recognized the stranger. As they “came to a deserted section”, he stated: “I thought you said you were not alone...as I do not see anyone with you...who is your company?”. Her lips were trembling and she answered him by stating: “The Lord Jesus Christ and His guardian angels are with me!” As the stranger turned to leave he stated: “Madam, you keep too good company for me. Good night!” She was under the watchful eye of the Lord!

Whatever difficulty you may be going through right now, you can be the same as the Apostles in the boat; Moses; or the Christian lady, you may call out to God at any time for His help. You can be reassured that His presence is with you, and that He is watching over you every moment of every day.

Lord God, thank You for Your mercy and love. Thank You for watching over us. Amen.
