Count Your Blessings From God
“In everything give thanks, for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.”
~ 1 Thessalonians 5:18
Charles Dickens wrote: “Reflect upon your present blessings, of which every man has many; not on your past misfortune, of which all men have some.”
J. Oatman, Jr., wrote: “Count your many blessings, name them one by one; Count your many blessings, see what God hath done.”
The people of the United States will celebrate Thanksgiving Day this coming Thursday. In 1789 George Washington recommended and assigned the first Thanksgiving Day. He proclaimed: “Whereas it is the duty of all Nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, and to be grateful for his benefits...”.
Why not stop for a time this Sunday to reflect on your present blessings. Grab a pen and pad to make a list of those blessings that our Almighty God has lovingly presented to you. You may see blessings every day, however, because of your busy lifestyle you may not take the time to recognize them. Go ahead, let's give it a whirl! However, be sure to count and number them one by one.
I will help you begin your blessing list. 1. Every day everyone across the world who is reading the Daily Prayer website have been given the freedom to study the Word; worship and pray together; and to praise and thank our Almighty God for this privilege. That is a very huge blessing for all of us, is it not?
Shall I suggest another example for your list? 2. A special blessing for all of us is Mason Barge. He puts countless hours into the website. With all his efforts, he keeps it fresh daily by researching, writing, and lastly he shares it with each and every one of us.
Have you started your list yet? When you do, keep the list, and every day or once a week add to it. Your spirits will reach a higher level as you visually see the number of special blessings our Almighty God has specifically given to you. Like J. Oatman, Jr. wrote: “see what God hath done”!
Now do not tell me that you do not have enough time to write down the blessings. H. Jackson Brown, Jr. wrote: “Never say you don't have enough time...You have exactly the same number of hours per day that were given to Helen Keller, Pasteur, Michelangelo, Mother Teresa, Leonardo da Vinci, Thomas Jefferson, and Albert Einstein.”
But wait! Don't leave yet! George Washington told us in his proclamation to “be grateful” to Almighty God for “His benefits”. So, you need to add one more thing to this Sunday project. Be sure to acknowledge and be thankful to our Almighty God for those wonderful blessings that He has given you. Why? Because our God has commanded us to thank Him for everything!
Lord God, we praise You and thank You for all the blessings that You give to us. Please open our eyes to see them each day. Amen.
